The Effect of a Writing Therapy Group Program for Middle-aged Women

|
The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of a writing therapy group program intended for middle-aged women. To accomplish this goal, this study, based on the research of Adams(2006a) and referred to the previously researched domestic studies, is comprised of a writing therapy program adapted for middle-aged women. Participants were 20 women ranging in age from 40 to 59 and divided into two groups; 10 in the experimental group and 10 in the controlled group. The program has been implemented twice a week for 3 hours each during 10 sessions. Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance, simple main effect and HSD of Tukey quantitative analysis were done to verify the effectiveness of program measuring the self-esteem, interpersonal relationship and meaning of life according to the Before - After - Afterward the program. Reports on changing experiences and survey of the program were also conducted to make up for the quantitative analysis. The findings of this study show that a writing therapy program has a great effect on raising the level of the self-esteem, interpersonal relationship and meaning of life among middle-aged women. This study proved significant in that applying the program concerning the middle-aged women¡®s life-cycle, the writing therapy is very effective in variables related to happiness of middle-aged women.
